The Chance of Living
Brian W. Fraser · Kris Graves Projects · 2026
The first monograph by Brian W. Fraser. Photographs of Bergen-Lafayette, Jersey City, and the people holding ground as the neighborhood is remapped around them.
Ships November 2026 - First edition of 750
In 2022, Jersey City redrew its ward map. Ward F was split, and Bergen-Lafayette with it. Politically connected developers got out of old ordinance obligations. The housing crisis kept growing.
I've photographed Bergen-Lafayette since 2017. The people, the churches, the corners, the lots. This book asks what that change means to the people living through it.
It's about who gets to stay, who gets remembered, and how we keep finding home when the ground keeps moving.
