Hair Study began with observing my partner prepare for the world. Hours of washing, detangling, the sectioning, and the care given to each strand before a style takes shape.

Black women's hair is labor before it is beauty. It carries the weight of perception, of survival, of what it takes to move through the world on their own terms. The series shows self-determination, the freedom to change, to transform, and to show up however she chooses.

This series documents one woman's hair, one style at a time. Each image is a record of both the work it takes and the choice behind it.
